Atta Halwa
cook0.15 hrs·serves4
Ingredients
- 1 cup Atta (Whole wheat flour)
- 1 cup Desi Ghee
- 3 cup Water
Spices
- 1 cup sugar
Directions
Sugar Syrup
- 1In a saucepan combine,
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 cups water
- 2Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring until all the sugar has dissolved
Halwa
- 1 Heat a pan over medium-low heat
- 2Add 1 cup of atta, and roast it for about 7 minutes stirring regularly to avoid burning. Roast until it turns slightly brown and develops a smell.
- 3Add 1 cup of desi ghee to the mixture, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes
Do not worry if the mixture looks runny at this stage. Once the sugar syrup is added, the atta will absorb the liquid and thicken to the correct consistency.
- 4Slowly pour the sugar syrup into the pan, while stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
- 5Continue stirring for a few minutes until the halwa thickens and ghee starts separating from the sides
- 6Turn the heat off, cover the pan with a lid and let the halwa sit for 2 minutes.
This allows the remaining moisture to be absorbed in the mixture, giving the halwa a soft and rich texture.

Notes
- Reheating is fine, but tastes best fresh.
